The rutilated quartz coins its first name from the Latin language. The word Rutilus in Latin means red. The name was due to some of the rutilated quartz specimen being red in color. They can be found in brown and grey colors and when merged in other minerals appears in elongated and thins color shots. It is one of the most common mineral on earth and makes up about ten percent of the earth's crust. The rutilated quartz can be gotten from any geographical environment. Some religions believe that it has magical energies to bring forth personal strengths, help the user to relate with other people as well as empower their originality. Some other people believe that it has the power to overcome depression and loneliness.
The rutilated quartz is a simple quartz stone, which has the rutile enclosures. It's basically made up of titanium dioxide (TiO2) thereby giving it a high refractive index; it is capable of dispersing most of the minerals it is placed with. This capability of dispersing the minerals makes it appear as long and with thin color shots when in other minerals. The mineral comes in a wide variation of quartz that is smoky, rutilated and rose quartz. To certain extent, the rutilated quartz when within quartz looks like gold fibers. This gives a attractive appearance thereby sort for the making of ornaments.
When placed on the Mohs scale, it is shown that the Quartz and the Rutile vary in their level of hardness. This makes it hard to make rutilated quartz smooth so that it can be used in jewelry. It is hence in most of the jewelers pitted on the surface rather than set inside. They are creatively placed and don't exceed the barriers hence they can be polished properly.
